Pricing … oh pricing…
What do I charge for X, Y and Z?
What is the right way to figure out the base cost (cost of doing business) and profit?
How do I price my services?
I know it’s very hard to figure out without any guidance and help. I know that the easiest way is to Google photographers in your area, look at their price-lists and price accordingly.
Is it really the right way?
I don’t know… I don’t have MBA in Business… but
…………I Don’t Think So
Just as two people are never the same, the price can’t be the same. There are so many factors, so many influences that go into pricing structure – experience, cost of photo lab services, studio space, personal preferences, etc.
So what to do if you don’t have any formal business education?
I don’t think you should compare yourself, your business to similar businesses in your area.
I think you should educate yourself.
How?
Well. You can purchase books, resources, take business classes, hire an accountant or business coach. Also there are some quite expensive pricing guides being sold (and a lot of people claim that they are Extremely Useful) …. but I don’t know, I can’t say if it’s true or not …. because ….
I’ve never bought any.
Just because I know about this two great FREE pricing resources that you can download too:
Pricing guide from Stacy Reeves
Pricing documents from Brand Camp blog
